SSW has simple shared accommodation on site as well as a house in the village. When you stay at SSW you will have a private bedroom, with access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. We allocate rooms randomly and based on availability, unless you let us know of any access needs.
Staying on site
There are four bedrooms on site, accessed via a steep flight of stairs. Each bedroom has a comfy double bed and storage. Two bedrooms look out onto Main Street and two look out over the roof to the rear of the site.
There are two shared shower rooms with step-in showers, toilets and hand basins. One is on the same level as the bedrooms and the other is up another flight of stairs.
The shared kitchen is housed in the Bothy, which also has laundry facilities.
Staying at No.17
No. 17, the house in the village, also has four bedrooms. It is 300m along Main Street towards Lumsden Square. There is on-street parking outside.
Two of the bedrooms at No. 17 are ‘family rooms’, with a double bed and a single bed. There is also one double room and one twin room. One of the family rooms is on the ground floor and the rest of the bedrooms are upstairs.
There is a shared kitchen on the ground floor. Upstairs is a shared bathroom and toilet. The bathroom has a bath and over-bath shower.
Cooking and eating at SSW
The Bothy is the large shared kitchen on site at SSW. It is the main kitchen for people who are staying on site, but is also used by the staff team and anyone else who is using the workshops or visiting.
SSW is self-catering and both kitchens are well equipped with the usual appliances, including microwave, fridges, freezer, electric hobs and ovens. The bothy also has a dishwasher.
Please be aware that meat, dairy, gluten, alcohol, nuts or other allergens may be consumed in shared spaces at SSW. If you would be affected by this please let us know before your visit and we will make appropriate arrangements.
Families and guests
We welcome artists with their families (bio/chosen), depending on room availability. Please get in touch by emailing arts@ssw.org.uk, or phoning 01464 861372 if we can support you in this way.
Residents may have guests for short stays but SSW staff must be informed in advance and arrival forms completed. If guests require an extra bedroom or bed linen we charge £35 per night (including VAT). Guests may not use the workshops unless they have made an Open Access booking.
Accommodation accessibility
There are physical limitations to our site that cannot be changed at this time. There is currently no level or ramped access to bedrooms (there is one bedroom on the ground floor of No. 17, up one step). All bath and shower rooms are located upstairs.
