Bridget Kennedy // Profile
bridgetfro2786.jpg Bridget Kennedy is a compulsive organiser. She uses systemisation as a survival tactic, as a means of creating a little quietness amidst the clamour of modern life. For the majority of the past decade she has lived and worked on the outskirts of a small village in the North of England. Whilst seeking out wildness and wilderness through interaction with nature she succumbs to the ever present desire to tame and control. She sees herself as a librarian of the landscape, constantly cataloguing. "I am interested in how landscape has been historically represented and the selection processes involved in representing a place. Knowing the influence that landscape painting and ‘the picturesque’ has on attitudes towards landscape forms a foundation from which I examine the composition, representation and presentation of landscape. In recent works I have been capturing digital images of landscape via video and stills camera, using software I re-interpret the image and find its inherent structure. Over the course of the two-year MFA, that I completed in June 2007, I identified areas of interest that are key to my current practice. These are an investigation into the act of looking, the process of translation and the organisation of information. I work with photography, video, drawing and printing. At present I am in the process of making a series of photo screen prints, which combine re-interpreted digital information, photographic imagery and drawings by nineteenth century scientists".
