Another incredible residency group have come and gone, marking the end of this year’s summer residency programme. In loving memory of Peter Smith – SSW chief technician 1980’s-2005

Very sad news for all alumni of Scottish Sculpture Workshops with the news that the much loved Peter Smith passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August, 12 2018 (age 78) after a short illness. Lumsden Residency: George Ridgway

Summer at SSW is magical, particularly with our recent spell of weather. Its full of energy and excitement with residency programmes, talks, projects and courses all running simultaneously… Still its important for us to emerge form our ‘Lumsden bubble’ and make time to see whats happening elsewhere in the world. At SSW its important for us to be connected to our locality, whilst also engaging with and learning from a multitude of places, people and practices across Europe and beyond. […]

Summer Residencies 2018: June

As the second of our summer residencies comes to a close, we reflect on a beautiful month of incredible weather, art-making, conversation, food, walking, swimming and sauna. We say goodbye and thank you, and wish all the best to our four June Summer Residents; Michael Boyd, Corrie Thomson, Yvette Bathgate, Christiana Bisset and Lumsden Residency artist; George Ridgway.  


In 2018 Scottish Sculpture Workshop launched a new annual Graduate Award programme, devised in collaboration with previous artist residents and graduate award winners. The award is supported through partnerships with five Scottish Universities: Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (University of Dundee), Edinburgh College of Art (The University of Edinburgh), Glasgow School of Art, Grays School of Art (Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen), and Moray School of Art (Moray College University of the Highlands and Islands). SSW Public Talks Series: Simone Kenyon

Each year SSW host a series of open talks to accompany our Summer Artist in Residence programme. These talks are set up to bring people together, share food and have vibrant conversations. Summer Residencies 2018: May

The first of our summer residencies finished last week with artists Audrey Dazelle, Jack O’Flynn, Yoonjung Kim, Jennifer Clews and Lumsden residency artist’s Anna Wolfe-Pauly and Dorian Braun. Also in residence at this time and dipping into the programme were Naomi Pearce, Katie Anderson and Julia Cowie. We had some beautiful weather and a lot of brilliant work was made. Hoping the weather continues for the next group arriving today.
