Gaea Todd // Profile
bedframe
ppbedframe4651.jpg Time and trangression are key elements of my work.

Looking at the control, direction and escape of time. Domestic liquids serve as metaphors carried through time and gravity representing the corporeal.

Using glass, wax, honey, molasses, oil paint and other materials I create works that speak of fragility and corruption, belonging and loss. As each drip becomes solitary separating from the body into a new channel.

The duration of the pieces constantly maintains tension and release, imbuing the observer with desire through promise.

Within this mediatation exists a deeper meaning, perhaps a magic and definitely an intrinsic beauty that in turn creates a space for contemplation.

This work wrestles with conceptual values, relating to the body, the human, time, violence, temporality and transmission. The art that interests and excites me moves both the heart and engages the mind. It is a means to enable us to make sense of our place in this world.

Material investigation is also imperative to my practice. My conceptual threads are interwoven with materials and their loaded vocabulary.
