Studios

SSW has 3 large, bright, multi-purpose work spaces, which are shared or available individually.

Wood and Metal

SSW provides a range of tools and equipment for most wood and metal working needs, including MIG and TIG welding.

Technical guidance is on hand for all equipment and a full induction is given to all artists. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

SSW also has a large kiln and basic ceramic facilities.

Foundry

The purpose-built foundry has facilities for mould-making and casting white metals, bronze and iron. The foundry is a training facility and artists are encouraged to engage with all stages of the process.

Please bear in mind when applying to use the foundry that metal casting is a labour intensive process. Full discussions with the technicians regarding the time-scales of any proposed project are highly recommended. Accommodation

SSW can host up to 10 artists in our recently refurbished, comfortable self-catering accommodation, either on site or in our house and flat in Lumsden village.

Wireless internet is available in the rooms on site, in 2 of the studios, and in the resources room. The resources room also houses IT facilities (Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite 3) and a library.

Also on site is a large kitchen-dining room in 'the bothy', and a small lounge area with video library. There is also a table tennis table in the 'red shed'.
