Metal Art – Welding

The SSW welding course is led by highly qualified time-served welder Bob Johnstone. Bob has worked with artists and students in universities and workshops for over 30 years, sharing skills and techniques with artists of all abilities. This course supports you to learn specific welding methods, through creating a sculptural artwork of your own design.

‘ I used this course to explore a wide variety of Welding techniques and applications. Working primarily a ceramic- based artist, this was a fantastic opportunity to get a foundation in working with new materials. I hope to further develop these techniques and to utilise them within my practice alongside ceramics.” SSW welding course participant 2015.

There is an emphasis on the craft skills required to create small to large scale sculptural work, and participants are asked to bring drawings or maquette’s of the art work they would like to work on during the week.
