Pitcaple Project // Profile
In early 2008 PEP (Pitcaple Environment Project) and the Harlaw Centre approached SSW with the intention of commissioning several permanent outdoor sculptures for their garden in Pitcaple. These sculptures were to be created in collaboration with the project service users who all have learning disabilities.
The resulting projects have been held at both SSW and on site at PEP, with three artists; Charles Engebretsen, Ginny Hutchison and Roland Engebretsen, who have worked closely with the service users to develop their ideas and designs.
These ongoing projects have included; metal workshops, transforming two dimensional drawings created by the class into metal sculptures; the design and construction of conceptual 'high rise' animal houses for birds, insects and other woodland creatures; the design and construction of 'kinetic' rain-sticks and other outdoor instruments to be installed in the Sensory Garden Trail.
These initial projects are the first in a series of collaboration with PEP and SSW and are to be installed in the grounds of PEP. It is hoped the work will be open to the public in the future.
