International language of sculpture

Tuesday,20th April 2010

End of week one and a bit of the Clairmont Ferrand residency at sun soaked SSW (with occasional snow flurries) has ended already. It was a short week due to a coffee related Gallic shrug fest that meant they missed the flight from CDG to ABZ soa lot of foundry time was spent on a bus from Paris to Lumsden (No 522 which is a daily service, check the timetable if you don‘t believe me you U bends).

We have also had the pleasure of Anne from Oz with us working in the foundry wax room on Thursday which resulted in a heady mix of cultured Gallic savoir faire, the internationally renowned Wildean Australian wit and Geordie, well just Geordie.

Unfortunately a meeting of the SSW brains trust ( Lester, Imelda, Gordon, Roland et al ) meant that the whole foundry ensemble were barred from the bothy and the resultant lack of strong coffee from 8.45 till 2.30 created a comic mix of frazzled French Australian and Swede-ish horseplay.

Antoine recorded the brief segment of conversation transcribed below

“Regardez, vad er det cobber?"
“Root me boot, c'est une bloody Kangaroo mes ami“
“ jag tinkte det they ej habite en bloody Skottland!”
“Var ar mon bloody boomerang cobber?”
“Viola!, neste till la plume de ma tante och min bloody crackers dans le cracker draw!”
”Er, look mate, hold yer bloody chevales”
“Det ej une Kangeroo!”
“Det er en bloody Great Dane having En storre Merde!”
“Ripper!”

I expect you had to be there.
