From rubber feet to orange balls

Wednesday,13th April 2011

The long running Whitespace project with the Seaton group came to an end the other week so watch the local news for sightings of large eggs, even larger nests and strange birdlike footprints by the banks of the Dee. The group left the compound with a bunch of weird stuff including a pair of aluminium strap on's and some bright orange bespoke rubber wear.

Back to reality and Kelly's farewell party was good fun, loads of food booze and a massive fire. amongst the guest list were new faces including young master Ross our new intern, and some old faces including Harry the cockney, past comrade SSW worker.

Ross is not the only fresh young thing to grace the office, joined as he is by our new creative producer, Emily. With Ross, Emily and the youthful Christine completing the office complement, I expect that Nuno feels like a haggared older uncle to them all every times he comes to work. As for me, I am steering clear of the place.

Speaking of Christine, she is now official foundry crew having taken part in her first metal pour, I don't think that it was in her job description but she didn't seem to mind.

To balance all these comings, we had to have a going, that being in the person of Julie Ward, finally leaving Lumsden via the beach life of Miami to Sloss for some iron filled fun.The three months she was here flew past and the place seems a lot quieter without her. In contrast however, I expect her latest port of call will be experiencing the opposite.

The heroic Jim Ewan returned to SSW to do some creating of spacemen bronze thanks to the generosity of the Aberdeenshire Visual Arts operatives. It is grand to see people return to the workshops after a long absence and comment on how great the place looks and what excellent facilities we have here. This warm feeling of pride about the old place is often tempered however by the "Bloody Hell, are you still here, I thought you were dead" aimed in my general direction.

In no way connected to the previous comment, Peter Elles returned to our bosom to work on his long gestating iron piece. It is all but finished now and the next visit will see him carry his vanishing lady off to it's saline rusting place. Secrecy prevents me from revealing more but if you send a tenner to the usual address I may be persuaded to elaborate.

Also with us is Laura from Greys currently working on a large construction which will be covered in Latex and erected in the community room, which to be honest sounds a bit rude.

We have four artists from Clairmant Ferrand here at the moment and as well as working hard in the foundry they have provided some top class Squennis action with Boom Boom's orange Balls. "Ozzy" and "Pizio the Champ" have been added to the great Pantheon of Squenndanistas, the latter probably a match for the greatest Squennmaster to have graced these shores, "La Claque" now back home in Quebec.
