Papal Visit

2005, pencil on paper, 30 x 30cm

Part of an ongoing exploration/exploitation of hand-drawn typography rendered with painstaking accuracy, in this case repeated as a form of 'roto-relief', with the text just legible. The work borrows an anecdote from 'The User's Guide to The Fall', which refers to a visit to Heaton Park in Manchester in the early '80s by the Pope (his helicopter flattened the local 'magic mushroom' field and inspired The Fall track 'Papal Visit')...
