In this course, participants will be guided through a range of processes in hand-building with clay with encouragement to go big! Together we will explore traditional techniques including coiling, slab building, pinch pots and press moulding to create sculptural and functional ceramic objects, as well as identifying different clay bodies for these different processes. There will also be an opportunity to add colour to creations with guided slip and surface decoration.

Participants are welcome to bring any objects they may wish to use as ‘formers’ for building around, or to use to add texture and pattern to surfaces, however this is not essential as all tools and materials will be provided. A full induction to the workshop will be given and no previous experience is necessary.

Your choice of pieces will be fired after the course and a clear gloss glaze available. Participants should collect work or make arrangements for the work to be collected, in line with SSW storage policy.
