Join us for 3 days delving into the wonders of stone carving using hand tools. The course will be led by established stone mason, artist and freelance SSW Stone Technician Lewis Morrison, who will guide you through the principles of stone carving including:
– A guide to different stone properties and relevant tool selection
– Planning, drawing and roughing out your designs in stone
– V-cutting, incising and surface finishing techniques
– Creating depth and movement in your carving
During the course you will have options to work with both a relief and 3 dimensional carving developing your own personal project. You will work with Maltese Limestone blocks approx 10″ x 7″ x 4.5″ and 10″ x 7″ x 6″. The course takes place outdoors and so you should dress appropriately for changing weather conditions. 5 of our bankers are wheelchair accessible. PPE will be provided and a full induction to the process will take place at the beginning of the course. No previous stone working experience is required, however the course can also support those with an existing stone practice.
