SSW was established to provide facilities for artists to make their work, regardless of background, practice or professional status. The Open Access progamme includes access to artists for production or research, as well as courses and workshop sessions for anyone wishing to learn techniques in sculptural mediums.
Groups are welcome for Open Access residencies and courses, and student groups are particularly encouraged during Spring (March/April) and Autumn (October). Groups can undertake independent practice, or we can help tailor a programme of technical instruction.
The facilities and resources of SSW are available to artists for both production and research, for any duration, with spaces subject to availability. There is no application process for this, but we encourage individuals to get in touch with us before booking. Reduced rates are available for students and recent graduates.
Artist Access includes:
- Residential Production – shared self-catering accommodation, access to facilities and basic technical assistance
- Residential Research – shared self-catering accommodation, access to library and resourses
- Non-residential Production – access to facilities and basic technical assistance
SSW runs regular technical courses in Foundry and Metal Art, which can be residential or non-residential. Courses are kept to small groups of a maximum of five participants, allowing greater one-on-one teaching time and to tailor courses to individual learning and practice. There are also ceramic sessions available, tailored to individual learning and available on a drop-in basis.
SSW can also arrange for tailor-made courses for groups or individuals. Please get in touch with the SSW office for enquiries: 01464 861372 or email@example.com
SSW facilities are accessible at any time, subject to availability, through our Open Access programme. This is offered on a production or research basis (research offers no access to the SSW workshops, although you are able to book them for 1/2 or whole day sessions). There are residential and non-residential rates, and concessions for students and recent graduates (up to 18 months after graduation).
Production Residency: £240/week (cons. £194)
Research Residency: £154/week (cons. £136)
Non-Residential: £21 per 1/2 day, £36 per full day, £135 per week
