Experiment with clay, learn new skills or build on existing ceramics experience in this two-day course, Introduction to Ceramics and Raku. Introducing participants to a range of fundamental ceramics techniques such as small hand building, slab-building, press moulding and throwing, this course gives space for you to develop your interest and skills within a friendly and encouraging environment. In the first session you will create a piece of work ready to bisque fire in time for the second session.

In the second session, you will learn about and undertake the experimental and addictive Japanese low firing process, raku. Raku involves putting bisque fired, glazed ceramics into an outdoor, gas fired kiln and firing them quickly, allowing the glaze to mature. The pieces are then removed while red hot and placed into sawdust. As the ceramics cool, exciting and unpredictable results are achieved.

Next steps after this course: Large Handbuilding; Regular Practice / Ceramics 1:1 sessions
