The wait’s nearly over!

Since the first phase of our capital development project started earlier this year it’s been so exciting to see our site, designed by Collective Architecture, being skilfully remodelled and renovated by the team at Coldwells Building Company.

After years of dreaming, feasibility studies and planning meetings we embarked on phase 1 of our masterplan starting with SSW’s main building, and it is now nearly a reality. Within weeks we will be starting to kit out a new, airy and spacious Community Making Space, ready for residents of Lumsden (and the surrounding area) to work with Myvillages in imagining and activating this space as part of the Rural School of Economics project. The ceramics workshop will be prepped, ready for installing new equipment, adding a dedicated glaze room and kiln room with updated extraction and another kiln! This will be topped off with new desks and the all important extra storage. The offices will be relocated and reconfigured to the north end of the building, offering improved welcome and navigation around our site. Make sure when you come and visit us you come in via the new front door! Each day we are closer to being open again.

Throughout July we will be working on final touches, including refreshing the on site accommodation, installing new signage, cleaning and unpacking our things into the new workshop and spaces. To be able to do this we are closed to open access bookings and only have one course running in July.

We can’t wait to welcome residents back to the site, proceeded only by our re-opening Weekender! We will keep you posted as the plans develop.
