Open Call: Group Residency 2022

We are excited to announce the launch of Group Residency at SSW. Taking place on our newly renovated site, we are now inviting applications for two residency groups in November 2022 and January 2023.

**To ensure we can provide appropriate support for our residents, we have decided to reschedule the September residency to accommodate staff changes and training. The November and January groups will continue to run as planned. In relation to this, we have extended the deadline by 2 weeks, until Thursday 18 August.**

Group Residency (previously known as Summer / Winter Residency) pays attention to the collective aspect of residency that has always been so vital at SSW. The programme provides the opportunity for artists to come together and to have dedicated time and support for the development of their ideas and practice.

Group Residency artists will be able to access all of our facilities, including our newly expanded and improved ceramics workshop. Our exciting Community Making Space will be open and residency artists will be able to come together with SSW’s neighbours and local community to share and exchange knowledge and ideas through the associated project, The Rural School of Economics. We are also looking forward to sharing our updated artists’ accommodation – it’s looking fresh and comfortable.

This year we are reducing our residency costs to one flat rate of £480 per person on Group Residency (4 weeks). We are in the process of reviewing our programme costs, and feel this is a step in the right direction. This cost is substantially subsidised by SSW with the support of Creative Scotland’s Regular Funding for Organisations (RFO) to the value of over £1000 per artist (based on 2018-19 costs).

As always we are continuing to revise and improve our application process, and this year we hope you will find this even more straightforward. If you have any questions about the programme, our facilities, the application process or accessibility, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We would love to hear from you. You can contact SSW Programme & Communications Manager, Jenny on jenny@ssw.org.uk or (+44) 01464 861372.
