Our busy and well-equipped ceramics studio offers artists the space, specialist advice and equipment to develop their work and practices in an experimental and supportive environment, dedicated to creative and innovative practice with ceramics.
From building and forming, through to firing and glazing, the ceramics studio at SSW is a bright and open space for developing new projects and skills with the specialist support of our part-time SSW Ceramics Technician. Get involved with our weekly Clay Group, or book Ceramics Open Access for day long development of your practice and space for professional projects.
The studio is equipped with two front loading kilns, an electric wheel, plaster and slip casting equipment, alongside comprehensive and experimental glazing resources. There is also a wide range of clays available to buy and use. Check out our courses programme for a chance to experiment and delve into specific skills and techniques through structured and informative sessions.

Cost: £16 per session + materials, firing charges and consumables
Dates: Tuesdays, 10am – 1pm
Learn how to work with clay as part of a small and friendly group in our weekly Clay Group. Develop your own small personal projects with the guidance of our Ceramics Technician in an informal setting and exchange ideas and inspiration within a supportive and encouraging network. These sessions are 3 hours and must be booked in advance. Dates for Clay Group will be released in blocks of seven or eight week terms.

Dates: Fridays (dependent on availability), 10am – 5pm
Make use of our specialist ceramics studio to develop your personal practice, independently work on projects and refine your skills. Ceramics Open Access offers artists bespoke advice and troubleshooting on areas of ceramic practice specific to your needs, within a creative, professional and experimental environment. Work alongside other artists to foster and build networks and dialogue, exchange skills and approaches. Explore and test new techniques with the support of the Ceramics Technician to push your practice, or develop new work through these intensive sessions.
