Art in Granite – Thursday 17 May, 2012, Aberdeen

Art in Granite
Scottish Sculpture Workshop presents an art panel presentation and discussion during Aberdeen’s second Granite Festival.
Aberdeen’s 2012 Granite Festival is back by popular demand! The new programme had been launched by Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums and Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) is delighted to take part. On Thursday, 17 May, 6.30-8.30pm, at Cowdry Hall, SSW presents Art in Granite – a panel discussion and presentation about the medium of granite and the artists who work with it.

Granite carving was a core component of the SSW programming from its inception in 1979 until 2002, and became a major contributor to the works presented in the biennial Scottish Sculpture Open exhibitions. This panel will feature alumni of SSW’s Granite Carving Symposiums, as well as local sculptors who continue to work in Aberdeenshire Granite today. Drawing on their own histories with this beautiful natural resource, the panel will reveal the skills, ideas and techniques of working with such a stunning material. The panel members will each give short presentations, followed by an open discussion and questions from the floor.
We are very pleased to participate in the celebrations which acknowledge Aberdeen’s well deserved moniker of the Granite City, and look forward to promoting this beautiful medium and supporting its use in art in the years to come.
All events are admission free. To book please call the Aberdeen Box Office on 01224 641122 or go to boxofficeaberdeen.com.
