Join us every Wednesday evening from 6-8pm for The Mid Week Make where we come together to explore materials, learn new skills, and connect with one another. This season we will be running a number of two part sessions in order to explore longer processes such as glass fusing, throwing clay pots on the wheel and drawing and mark making. Sessions are led by artists, local makers and the SSW team
No experience is needed, and all materials, tools, snacks and refreshments are provided. All sessions are free of charge.

Drawing and mark making with Holly Cowie
11 February 6-8pm
Join us for a relaxed, creative session focused on letting go of expectations. Holly will guide you through experiments with creatine loose, expressive marks using charcoal and natural materials, before bringing your ideas together to create a colourful artist’s book inspired by plants and birds. No drawing experience is needed – just curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
Glass Fusing with Hazel MacLennan*
Part 1 – 18 February 6-8pm
Part 2 – 25 February 6-8pm
Join us for a two-part introduction to glass fusing led by glass artist Hazel MacLennan. Over the two sessions, you’ll be guided through the key techniques needed to design, cut, and assemble glass.There will be plenty of time to experiment with the materials and techniques, before bringing everything together to design and make your own colourful glass coasters to take home.

Throwing and handbuilding with clay with Amy Benzie*
Part 1 – 4 March 6-8pm
Part 2 – 11 March 6-8pm
Come along to a hands-on, two-part clay session led by Amy Benzie, SSW’s ceramics technician. You’ll get stuck into throwing on the potter’s wheel, learning the basics of shaping and bringing your clay forms to life. Alongside this, you’ll explore handbuilding techniques and work with clay suitable for atmospheric firings such as raku.

Raku firing with Amy Benzie
18 March 6-8pm
Raku firing is a fun and experimental way of glazing ceramics and means “pleasure,” “comfort,” or “enjoyment,” in Japanese, where this technique originates. The session is led by Amy Benzie, SSW’s ceramics technician who will guide you through how raku firing creates unpredictable and beautiful results using heat and organic materials.
Please note that you do not have to have attended the previous clay sessions to book.
Exploring shape in drawing with Holly Cowie
25 March 6-8pm
Our final session of the winter programme looks ahead to spring with a fun, ink drawing session. Led by artist Holly Cowie, you’ll explore shape and composition through negative space, experimenting with ink to create bold and playful outcomes.

The Mid Week Make sessions are open to all above the age of 10 years old. Children and young people must be accompanied by their parent/ caregiver.
