Our team of resident technicians and artists all mucked-in at the SSW foundry on Monday to aid resident artist and technical ceramics placement, Kevin Morris, in his first attempt at bronze casting.
Our Senior Technician Eden Jolly and technical assistant Euan Ogilvie used a flame-thrower to melt the wax out of molds Kevin has been working on over the last week. As this went on, the rest of us melted the bronze ready to be poured into the molds, each taking turns to put the metal to be melted into the blazing furness. Once they were ready the six of us each took a role in the pouring process as the molten bronze was tipped into the molds; an exhilarating and very toasty experience all-round!
