Join us every Wednesday evening from 6-8pm for The Mid Week Make — a new series of free creative sessions where we come together to explore materials, learn new skills, and connect with one another. Each week focuses on a different process or technique, led by artists, local makers and the SSW team.
No experience is needed, and all materials, tools, snacks and refreshments are provided. These sessions are open to all — children and young people are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Sessions are free but please book by emailing communities@ssw.org.uk letting us know all of the events you plan to attend.

Exploring nature and species through sculpture – with Hannah Imlach
29 October

Join us for an introduction to the work of artist Hannah Imlach and get practical making artworks that bring humans and animals together. The session will kick off with an introduction to Hannah’s work which can be seen across Scotland followed by time to make small artworks that can be placed outside and attract and support animal interactions.
Handbuilding Clay Candle Holders

Join us for a hands-on session where you will get a chance to handbuild a variety of different types of candle and incense holders and learn different ways that you can use and apply slip to decorate your pieces.
Beeswax candle making and local scents with Donnah Murray-Dilger
19 November
6-8pm
Join us for a beeswax candle and incense making session with local artist Donnah Murray-Dilger. We’ll be experimenting with a range of different fragrances that have a local connection to make poured candles and incense. You’ll also enjoy rolling our own beeswax candles together.
Paper making from local and waste materials
26 November
6-8pm
Join us for a session of experimenting with paper. In this workshop you’ll learn how to make paper using a range of materials grown at SSW and things we often discard. We will also experiment with different additions we can place within paper including seeds we have saved from our own Materials Garden.
Working with our paper
3 December
6-8pm
Join us for a session where we will work with our handmade paper from the previous session. Kicking off the session will be a short introduction into the possibilities of paper! We will also share techniques including cutting and folding to decorate and design and create a variety of decorative paper and objects.
Wreath making with Annabel MacDougall
10 December
6-8pm
Join us for a festive session of wreath making with local artist Annabel MacDougall. We will explore a variety of materials to make a decorative wreath to take home and display.
